Pre-Professional Programs, BS
At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville our Bachelor of Science degrees in Pre-Professional Programs provide foundational knowledge and interdisciplinary, hands-on skills that prepare you for professional schools, whether that’s dental, veterinary, medical, pharmacy, or law school. You’ll gain specialized knowledge and work with the College of Arts and Sciences advising team to prepare you for entrance exams—like the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test), LSAT (Law School Admission Test), and DAT (Dental Admissions Test)—preparing you to become a competitive applicant for professional schools and beyond.
Pre-Dentistry
The Pre-Professional Programs, BS in Pre-Dentistry is a 3 + 1 program where students gain clinical training in UT’s College of Dentistry at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, during their fourth year of study. This program builds a strong foundation and hands-on skills in the life and medical sciences, preparing students to apply to dental school and obtain their Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
Pre-Law
The Pre-Professional Programs, BS in Pre-Law is a 3 + 3 joint Bachelor of Science / Doctor of Jurisprudence (BS/JD) program where students complete three years of pre-law coursework. After one year of law school (the fourth year) in the Winston College of Law, students earn their BS degree, building strong foundations in legal knowledge and U.S. history, preparing them for law school applications and obtaining their Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
Pre-Medicine
The Pre-Professional Programs, BS in Pre-Medicine is a 4-year program where students gain foundational knowledge in medical science through courses in biology, neuroscience, chemistry, and more. This program gives students a strong footing and competitive edge for applying to professional medical schools, preparing them for careers as doctors, physician assistants (PAs), surgeons, or other health-related careers.
Pre-Pharmacy
The Pre-Professional Programs, BS in Pre-Pharmacy is a 3 + 1 program where students gain clinical training in UT’s College of Pharmacy at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, during their fourth year of study. The program builds strong foundations in math, chemistry, and drug therapies, plus hands-on skills for patient education—preparing students to apply to pharmacy school and pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
Pre-Veterinary
The Pre-Professional Programs, BS in Pre-Veterinary is a 3 + 1 program where students gain hands-on training in UT’s College of Veterinary Medicine, during their fourth year of study. This program builds a strong foundation and hands-on skills in the life and animal sciences, preparing students to apply to vet school and obtain their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
