3+1 Programs

If you are planning a career in Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, or Pharmacy, you have the option of obtaining a degree before entering a professional school or following a special 3 + 1 curriculum.

These three-year programs lead to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in pre-professional programs from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In these three-year programs, the student must complete at least 90 prescribed credit hours while enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Bachelor of Science degree is granted upon being admitted and satisfactory completion of the first year of study in Memphis. Admission to the UT Health Science Center professional programs (Dentistry, Veterinary, and Pharmacy) is at the discretion of that college; admission to and successful completion of these programs do not assure admission to UT Health Science Center Professional program.

All of the required courses for admission to a professional school are included in the first three years of the program, as well as all of the courses necessary to satisfy the requirements for a degree in the College of Arts and Sciences. No additional undergraduate major is required.
