The Global Studies graduate certificate prepares students to learn about global cultures, migration, health, human rights, political economy, and more.
With abundant and flexible course options, you will approach these subjects from an interdisciplinary lens, taking courses in anthropology, English, geography, history, political science, world languages and cultures, and even musicology. This interdisciplinary foundation equips you to understand global interactions and inequalities, and their intersections with economies, politics, and cultures.

What Can You Do with an Graduate Certificate in Global Studies After Graduation?
The Global Studies program at UT provides students with a curriculum that makes them global citizens, conscious of the exchange of cultures, politics, investments, and more throughout the world. It teaches students methods, strategies, and skillsets that will prepare them to create real-world solutions to global problems, training them in transnational process analysis and methodologies to see the world from an innovative perspective in whichever field they choose.
Many alumni of this program have gone on to be successful internationally. Your broadened worldview can help you work in foreign affairs, diplomacy, or policy work for community, economic, and resource development. You could work in international business as an international consultant, global supply chain analyst, trade compliance analyst, or international marketing manager. You could work in politics, doing policy making, political advising, public sector reform, or in law, working in trade and investment law, refugee law, human rights law, or humanitarian law.
In this program, you will also gain strong knowledge of at least one foreign language, which leads many of our graduates to work in language services or education as teachers, tutors, international student support workers, study abroad programmers, or curriculum developers. Overall, the knowledge, perspective, connections, and collaborations you earn from this program will prepare you for many diverse careers, teaching you how social sciences and humanities intersect when approaching the contemporary global issues people in these careers work with everyday.

ANTH 425 Humanitarianism
This course provides a critical survey of theoretical and ethnographic studies of modern humanitarianism, with particular emphasis on the relationship between humanitarianism and cultural, economic and political orders associated with global capitalism. It also explores critical questions around democracy, development, human rights and social justice in relation to the ideologies and practices of humanitarianism.
ENGL 594 Film History, Form, and Analysis
This course covers issues in film studies: history of narrative film; concept of film form; critical approaches to film study (genre, auteur, formalist, and others); and critical analysis of individual films.
POLS 687 International Political Economy
Students will learn the theoretical explanations for the relationship between the international economy, and, both international and domestic politics. This course provides the analytical tools necessary to evaluate issues related to that relationship.
PORT 430 Contemporary Brazilian Studies
Students will explore current Brazilian cultural, political and racial issues placed in a historical perspective with a comparative emphasis.
