Scholar Spotlight: Bucky Miller

“I make weird pictures of real things and real pictures of weird things. Hopefully you can’t tell the difference.”
Bucky Miller
Assistant Professor
School of Art
I photograph to stir up ideas that exist outside language, so I typically can’t know where I’m going until I get there. No matter what medium I investigate, I maintain my fascination with photography’s ability to withhold, as much provide, information.
I hold things in constant states of tension, whether that’s between “real” and “staged,” “funny” and “serious,” or whatever else.
Why I Do What I Do
I got into art, and photography, through skateboarding and old Talking Heads records. It’s a lucky break that I get to engage so deeply with pictures as part of my job, because pictures are my favorite thing.
Currently Working On
Going to the desert and attempting to photograph javelinas, which resemble pigs.
