Qiusheng Wu was recognized by UT Libraries for his collaboration in leading the 2025 Open Science Workshop and Symposium.

Associate Professor Qiusheng Wu, Department of Geography and Sustainability, earned the UT Libraries’ Paul E. Trentham Sr. Library Partner Award for organizing the Open Science Workshop and Symposium in collaboration with the library. The award was presented at UT Libraries’ 2025 Spirit Awards ceremony on May 22.

This award goes to an individual from outside the library administration who helped foster increased communication and visibility for library services on campus. The award citation celebrated the workshop’s success in establishing new working relationships across campus and providing a platform to discuss open-access funding, open data, and available library services.

“Receiving this award is a great honor,” said Wu. “I’m grateful to UT Libraries for their partnership and to everyone who contributed to the success of the Open Science Workshop series. I also truly appreciate the support from our college, especially Divisional Dean Patrick Grzanka and Associate Dean Mike Blum for their strong advocacy of the Open Science Initiative.”

The workshop series was hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences March 10–April 21, 2025, with goals of promoting principles of transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility in research.

“The series has sparked many valuable connections with faculty across disciplines, staff committed to research transparency, and students eager to explore more accessible and reproducible approaches to science,” said Wu. “Collaborating with the library has not only strengthened these initiatives but also opened new opportunities for interdisciplinary engagement and long-term impact. The award highlights the importance of fostering a culture of openness and collaboration in research and education. It’s especially meaningful to see open-science efforts recognized and supported at the institutional level.”
