The University of Tennessee Knoxville Mock Trial team (UTMT) is a student-run and student-coached undergraduate trial advocacy team made up of 25-40 students from all majors who compete as attorneys or witnesses. We compete in tournaments around the nation in the fall and compete in the American Mock Trial Association’s Tournaments in the spring.

Tennessee Mock Trial often makes it to premier championship rounds, something only 28% of teams nationwide do. Currently, Tennessee Mock Trial is ranked 101st in the nation (out of 700+ teams) and is one of the highest-ranked student-run teams in the nation. Our organization strives to educate and empower students to be confident and knowledgeable in the process of litigation.

This past season, our award-winning organization took home 21 awards, competing at 10 events across the country! Traveling more than 3,000 cumulative miles, our competitors learned valuable advocacy skills while making friendships across the country.

Anyone is welcome to join UTMT. We have students from all majors and colleges, including engineers, business majors, and social work majors. We are looking to recruit new members this fall, and no previous experience is required.

Our organization will prepare students to graduate as confident speakers, leaders, and problem solvers. UTMT is a great place to network and learn if law school is the right path for you. Our organization will provide hands-on experience with trial advocacy and the legal process. Some of our UTMT alums have gone on to prestigious law schools like Harvard, Georgetown, and Washington University in St. Louis.
