College of Arts and Sciences Researchers Honored in 2024 Innovation Awards
Two College of Arts and Sciences researchers were honored during the UT Research Foundation (UTRF) 2024 Innovation Awards on November 25.
Microbiology Professor Chunlei Su was noted for his licensed technology collaboration on the TgMAT Antigen with UT alumna Alycia Chapman, and Richard Gerhold Jr., an associate professor in the UT College of Veterinary Medicine.
Chemistry Professor Jimmy W. Mays was recognized for receiving a patent (11,754,374) for “Energy Absorbing Nanocomposite Materials and Methods Thereof,” in collaboration with and colleagues from multiple universities: Gajanan Bhat, Vikram Srivastava, and Josh Fogle.
The event commemorated 90 years of advancing research, commercialization, and innovation at UT and recognized UTRF’s ongoing commitment to advancing the research-to-commercialization pipeline. Overall, the awards recognized three startups, 36 commercialization agreements, and 25 issued patents. Engineering Professor Uday Vaidya, UT/ORNL Governor’s Chair in Advanced Composites Manufacturing, and Professor Wei Li of the UT Health Science Center were both honored with the prestigious 2024 Innovator of the Year award, highlighting their exceptional impact on innovation and entrepreneurship.
Since 1934, UTRF has been crucial in transforming groundbreaking research into impactful products and services that improve lives.
