Blake Cantrell Maintains Alumni Connections
Blake Cantrell joined the College of Arts and Sciences in March 2024 as director of development focusing on the Division of Social Sciences. He brings more than nine years of fundraising experience in higher education and a track record of building strong relationships while increasing philanthropic support and engagement with alumni and constituents.
Cantrell is on point to provide alumni lists to assist faculty and staff with outreach within their departments.
“In addition, I can provide assistance with reviewing communications—letters, emails, newsletters, etc.—to alumni and donors,” said Cantrell.
He is excited to join the College of Arts and Sciences community.
“The arts and sciences faculty and staff have an infectious energy about the curriculum and work going on within the college,” he said. “The leadership across the UT system and UT Knoxville campus is amazing. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of the team.”
He most recently served as assistant athletics director for development and Eagle Club Director at Carson-Newman University, overseeing fundraising, corporate partnerships, ticketing, and game-day operations for the athletic department.
“My experience as a development officer at several prior institutions has provided me the opportunity to work with a diverse group of alumni and donors,” said Cantrell. “I am fortunate to be able to lean on my previous relationships and experiences, which I believe will be of benefit in my current role.”
Prior to Carson-Newman, Cantrell worked in athletics development for Western Carolina University and as a development officer for Tusculum University in both academics and athletics. He also spent six years working in supply chain for Tennessee Valley Authority before transitioning to a career in higher education.
A native of Dandridge, Tennessee, Cantrell holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration for logistics/supply chain management from East Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Tusculum University.
“Off-campus, I like spending time with family—notably my sons Tate, 16, and Hudson, 13,” said Cantrell. “I enjoy playing golf, running, and attending concerts and sporting events.”
