Virtual Drop-in Advising

We are offering Virtual Drop-In Advising this Spring on January 15th and 16th, January 20th-23rd, and January 26th from 8:30am – 3:30pm Eastern Time. These sessions are to assist with Spring schedule changes, SAP appeals, and other urgent course related needs. 

Our drop-ins continue through January 26th to assist with any adjustments needed during the university’s add/drop period. Please note: the university will be closed on Monday, January 19th in observation of Marting Luther King Jr. Day, therefore, we will not be offering drop-ins on January 19th. January 26th is the add/drop deadline, the last day to add classes or to drop classes without using a “W.”

• January 15th-16th: 8:30am-3:30pm    
• January 20th-26th: excluding weekends and MLK Jr Day (1/19), 8:30am-3:30pm
  • Classes begin the 20th.
• January 27th: Regular appointments resume for longer range planning, such as grad plans, petitions, etc.  Log in to Vol Connect (see below for details) on January 20th or after to schedule these types of appointments.

Please join Zoom on a laptop, computer, or tablet with your Zoom Name set as the name UTK has in the system for you or with your NETID (letters & numbers before your @vols.utk.edu). Not sure how to change your Zoom name? Take a look at Zoom Support’s “How to change your name on Zoom” help guide.

After you click the link, you will be put into a waiting room. These drop-ins are “first come, first serve,” which makes wait times vary anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. Please be prepared to wait while other students are being assisted. As soon as an advisor is available to work with you, they will accept you into a meeting. Please stay with your device so that you are available to speak with our team. If you leave the waiting room and return, your spot will not be reserved, and you will be moved to the bottom of the queue.

Scheduling Advising Appointments after Virtual Drop-ins

Current Students: Scheduling with a member of your Vol Success Team (Advisor, Coach, etc.)

• Schedule your appointment online through Vol Connect. Here is how:
  • Log into your MyUTK account.
  • Scroll down to the “Academic Resources” section at the bottom of the page.
  • Click on the “Vol Connect” link.
  • Click “Connect” from the options at the top of the screen and select “Schedule Appointments” from the dropdown menu.
  • Click the blue “Schedule an Appointment” button.
  • Select the “Assigned” tab.
  • Select your “Advisor.”
  • Select the appropriate topic and subtopic.
  • Select the preferred date, time, and modality.
  • Indicate what you would like to discuss during your appointment in the comment box.
  • To confirm the appointment, click “Schedule ___ Appointment.” Your appointment will NOT be saved until you click this button.
  • Please call 865-974-4483 if you have problems scheduling your appointment online.

Current Students: Scheduling with a person/office outside of your Vol Success Team

• Schedule your appointment online through Vol Connect. Here is how:
  • Log into your MyUTK account
  • Scroll down to the “Academic Resources” section at the bottom of the page.
  • Click on the “Vol Connect” link.
  • Click “Connect” from the options at the top of the screen and select “Schedule Appointments” from the dropdown menu.
  • Click the blue “Schedule an Appointment” button.
  • Select the “Teams” tab.
  • Select the team you would like to meet with.
  • Select the appropriate topic and subtopic.
  • Select the preferred date, time, staff member, and modality.
  • Indicate what you would like to discuss during your appointment in the comment box.
  • To confirm the appointment, click “Schedule ___ Appointment.” Your appointment will NOT be saved until you click this button.
  • Please call 865-974-4483 if you have problems scheduling your appointment online.

Current Students: Rescheduling or Cancelling an Appointment

• Reschedule or cancel your appointment online through Vol Connect. Here is how:
• Log into your MyUTK account.
• Scroll down to the “Academic Resources” section at the bottom of the page.
• Click on the “Vol Connect” link.
• Click “Connect” from the options at the top of the screen and select “Schedule Appointments” from the dropdown menu.
• Below the blue “Schedule an Appointment” button, you will see a list of all Upcoming scheduled appointments.
• Click “Reschedule or Cancel” and choose whether you want to “Reschedule” or “Cancel Appointment.”
  • If rescheduling, select a new date, time, and modality. Click through the subsequent windows to confirm the changes to your appointment.
  • If cancelling, indicate your reason for cancelling in the box provided and click “Cancel Appointment.”
• Ensure that you see the change reflected in your upcoming appointments before exiting Vol Connect.
