Divisions and Departments
Students who choose a major in the College of Arts and Sciences learn how to be curious and passionate about their area of study and the world around them. We provide students with the tools that cross disciplines from the arts and humanities to the social and natural sciences. Our students have flexibility in their path to graduation and opportunities along the way to explore all the College of Arts and Sciences has to offer.
With more than 140 majors and 41 minors across 21 departments, we offer the most diverse courses and opportunities for pursuing research and creative activities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, making us home to one of the most socially, economically, and culturally diverse student populations on campus.

Divisional Structure Pilot
In July 2023, Robert Hinde stepped into the role of Interim Executive Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences with a focus on implementing a divisional structure pilot in which the college is organized around three broad divisions: Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Social Sciences.
