Marco graduate student research funding includes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Paul Barrette Student Travel and Research Travel Scholarship<\/strong>&nbsp;(Up to $1000)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Raymond E. Horne Graduate Student Award<\/strong>&nbsp;(Up to $500)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Marco Graduate Student Research and Travel Scholarship<\/strong>&nbsp;(Up to $1000)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Available funds are limited, so applicants are expected to&nbsp;demonstrate&nbsp;that they have&nbsp;applied to&nbsp;other sources of funding both internal and external to the University. Requests for conference travel will be entertained only if the applicant is presenting a paper or attending a class or seminar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions for Applying<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please&nbsp;submit&nbsp;a letter outlining the details of your travel request, including the following (as relevant):&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your name, home department, progress toward degree (e.g.\u00a0in coursework, ABD, etc.)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Details of your travel\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Proposed dates and location(s) of travel\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reason for going (e.g.\u00a0presenting a conference paper; conducting archival research)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Name of conference\/seminar\/colloquium\u00a0and paper title (if presenting a paper)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Detailed budget, including amount that you are requesting from Marco\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Include names of other departments\/organizations that you are requesting money from, and amounts that you are\u00a0asking\u00a0from each.\u00a0(Because Marco funding is more limited than other sources, you must request funding from your home department\u00a0and\u00a0the Graduate Student Senate before applying for Marco\u00a0funding.)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A letter of support from the student\u2019s graduate advisor or other faculty mentor, attesting to the applicant\u2019s progress towards their degree and the importance of the proposed project\/travel, is\u00a0required\u00a0for requests\u00a0in excess of\u00a0$500.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications should be addressed to Marco\u2019s&nbsp;Riggsby Director, and&nbsp;emailed to marco@utk.edu. Requests are reviewed by the Marco Steering Committee on a rolling basis throughout the year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Reminders about University-Supported Travel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Travel authorization must be obtained prior to departure. NOTE: It is the student\u2019s responsibility to get travel authorization from their home department.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hotel costs must be within the\u00a0government\u00a0CONUS rate for the city in question. If your hotel is over that amount, you must include documentation of the conference hotel rate. Otherwise, you will only be\u00a0reimbursed up\u00a0to the CONUS amount for the stay.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The hotel receipt must be in the traveler\u2019s name. If you share a room, ask the hotel to split your bill and print a copy showing your\u00a0portion.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meal costs are\u00a0reimbursed up\u00a0to the CONUS amounts approved for each meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner); food expenses beyond the daily CONUS rate will not be reimbursed.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All receipts must be itemized (list items\u00a0purchased) and show method of payment (e.g.\u00a0cash, last 4 digits of credit card).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are receiving GSS funds, you must include proof of attendance at the conference (e.g.\u00a0name badge).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please consult UT\u2019s Travel Policy for further information.&nbsp;Direct&nbsp;any other&nbsp;questions to Marco\u2019s Program&nbsp;Manager&nbsp;or your home department\u2019s travel specialist.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Newberry Consortium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Special funds are available each year for research trips to the Newberry or Folger Libraries as part of Marcos\u2019 membership in the Newberry Consortium.
