Outreach<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

When the Marco Institute was originally founded, it was as the Medieval and Renaissance Curriculum and Outreach (MARCO) Project. Almost a quarter of a century later, Outreach continues to be a focus of our work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of the last few decades, the Marco Institute has hosted or contributed to a number of Outreach events with local schools. For many years, we ran a family Medieval Day in partnership with Knox County Schools, providing fun, educational programming for middle and high school students. The Marco Institute is also proud to be an annual contributor to the UT Department of Classics\u2019 annual Latin Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, the Marco Institute has also held virtual and in-person teacher training and professional development workshops to expand our outreach efforts. The most recent of these efforts is TOMES, the Toolkit for Online Medieval Educational Sources, developed by Marco faculty and graduate students to provide training and lesson plans for secondary school teachers in Tennessee and beyond who are working on premodern materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the Marco Institute\u2019s long-running commitment to public outreach, we are excited to partner with secondary-school educators from Knoxville and around the state of Tennessee to launch a brand-new online resources for teaching the premodern world!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full website includes lesson plans, media, handouts, assignments, assessments, and everything else educators need to run a lesson or even whole unit on a range of medieval subjects! Drawing on the experience and expertise of our faculty and graduate students, it will provide teachers with materials developed by subject experts in an easy-to-use format ready to be taken right into the classroom!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
