Bikash Bogati, doctoral student in the microbiology department, was inspired to help others and found Volunteer Assisted Transportation – a volunteer driver program of the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee. Read the full story online.

Ben Cooper, a graduate student in the School of Music, is one of two winners at the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA) conference in May. In a new competition category, “Tuba +”, competitors created videos featuring at least one tuba player and were strictly forbidden from collaborating in-person with any other person; these videos were created entirely via online collaboration. Shih-Lung Shaw, professor of geography, is president-elect of the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS), a non-profit organization that creates and supports communities of practice for GIScience research, education, and policy endeavors in higher education and with allied institutions.
