Showni Medlin-Crump is the office manager for the Department of Physics and Astronomy and works closely with the department head to manage nearly all department operations, which is no small feat for a department with more than 200 people, including professors, postdocs, research staff, and students. Showni has made a very substantive contribution to the current strength of the department and is at the heart of the machinery that keeps the department humming.
She serves as a liaison between the department and the university at large and is the key point of contact for outside partners, such as ONRL joint faculty. Aside from her professional acumen as an administrative associate III, Showni has an admirable ‘can do’ attitude, is always eager to learn and try out new things, and promotes team building in the department. Her professional and courteous attitude has earned her great respect among faculty, students, and staff.
Showni is a champion of equity and diversity. She is exemplar for supporting women in physics and spearheaded several important initiatives focused on women in physics. Showni embodies the Volunteer Spirit, dedicated to providing light to others.
